The peaceful village of Machrie lies on the west coast of Arran, with a long shingle beach for sunset strolls and picnics watching the boats skim across the bay. Discover the atmospheric Neolithic stone circle on Machrie Moor (1.5 miles) on a hike across the moorland or follow the woodland trails through the grounds of Brodick Castle (9.5 miles). Try your hand at gorge walking, abseiling or mountain biking at Auchrannie (9 miles). For a less strenuous activity why not visit one of two distilleries for a distillery tour and sample a dram or two? – the Isle of Arran Distillers (14 miles) or Lagg Distillery (10 miles)
